Doris S. Matovelo is an retired Associate Library Professor and was the Head of Acquisitions section at the Sokoine National Agricultural Library (SNAL) at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania. Until June 2014, she was the Director for SNAL, a position she held for two terms (2008-2014). She is a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam (PhD-Information Studies), Loughborough University, UK (M.A Library and Information studies) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (BSc. Home Economics and Human Nutrition). Her current areas of research interest include Access to information in rural communities for rural development, Participatory and Action research approaches in information management; adoption of information and communications technologies (ICT) in access to and dissemination of information, and in user services. She has more than two decades of experience as a librarian at SUA. She was teaching Communication theory and practice to undergraduate students and a number of courses to diploma students. She had co-supervised supervised PhD and supervised Undergraduate and Diploma research projects. She was supervising two projects on establishing open access digital repositories; the Tanzania Climate change repository (TaCCIRe) and SUA’s Institutional Repository. She is a member of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD) and a member to the Tanzania Library Association. She has published more than 30 articles in scholarly publications and conference proceedings.
